Westbourne Running Club is continuing to bring local runners together this autumn with a busy programme of social runs, training sessions and race events across Bournemouth and Poole.

The club describes itself as friendly and inclusive, with sessions designed for a wide range of abilities - from people looking for a relaxed social jog to experienced runners wanting more structured training.

Its latest social run update, shared on 30 September, highlighted a warm September evening spent running together, while the October calendar includes several opportunities for people to get involved.

Social run from Westbourne on 6 October

The next Westbourne-based social run takes place on Tuesday 6 October at 6.30pm, starting from Maravi in Westbourne.

The route is an out-and-back run towards Boscombe Pier and will be led by Clive.

For anyone considering joining the club, Westbourne Running Club says prospective members are welcome to come along for a few runs first to see whether the group is the right fit.

That makes the social sessions a particularly accessible way to try the club without immediately committing to full membership.

Running for different abilities

The club's programme is deliberately varied.

Alongside relaxed social runs, members can take part in hill sessions, interval training, track nights, lunchtime jogs and early morning runs.

Sessions during October include an easy early jog on 7 October, a speed session at Pier Approach on 8 October and a social run from Branksome on 11 October.

A track session is also planned at Kings Park Athletics Track on 12 October, followed by further social and training sessions throughout the month.

The club trains across Bournemouth and surrounding areas including Westbourne, Branksome, Talbot Woods, Durley Chine, Southbourne and Hengistbury.

More than just training

Westbourne Running Club also has a strong social side.

The October calendar includes a Curry Night at Dilli Haat in Westbourne on 21 October, giving members another opportunity to meet away from training.

The club says the social side of running is an important part of its identity, with group runs and race days helping to create a sense of community alongside the sporting element.

Its 30 September update following a social run reflected that atmosphere, with members enjoying an evening run together as September came to a close.

Local races and club events

Members also regularly take part in organised races across Dorset and the wider region.

October includes events such as the Weymouth 10 Mile and The Stickler, while Westbourne Running Club also participates in the Dorset Road Race League and selected trail events.

For members who enjoy a more competitive side to running, selected races form part of the club championship, allowing runners to score points and track their progress throughout the year.

Westbourne RC is also affiliated with UK Athletics.

Thinking of joining?

The club welcomes adults aged 18 and over and encourages anyone interested to come along for a few sessions before deciding whether to join.

That makes it suitable both for runners wanting more structured training and for people who simply want the motivation and company that comes with running as part of a group.

With social runs, race events and regular training throughout the month, October offers plenty of opportunities for local runners to get involved - whether they are chasing a faster time or simply looking for company on their next run.
