Westbourne’s Christmas tree light switch-on traditionally brings local residents, families and traders together for an early-evening celebration in the centre of the village.
The event is normally organised by Bournemouth Coastal BID with support from Westbourne’s traders and community organisations. Previous celebrations have included live music, a public countdown and special guests.
In 2025, the switch-on took place on 29 November from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. That was the previous programme and should not be reused as the date or time for 2026.
The 2026 date, time, performers and guests are still to be announced. We will update this section when Bournemouth Coastal BID releases the official information.

The Westbourne Artisan Christmas Market is expected to provide a seasonal showcase for independent Dorset makers.
Previous markets at The Libertine have brought together a carefully selected collection of traders selling handmade gifts, artwork, homeware, food and other locally produced items.
The market suits Westbourne particularly well. Rather than duplicating the products available from larger high-street shops, it provides another opportunity to find small-batch and individual presents while supporting local traders.
The exact date, opening hours, stallholders and 2026 admission arrangements have not yet been announced. Read the separate Westbourne Artisan Christmas Market guide, which should also be updated when the organiser releases the details.

Westbourne traditionally holds a separate family celebration involving Santa and entertainment around the historic arcade.
Previous events have featured singing, roaming entertainment and festive activities, giving families another reason to visit after the main lights switch-on.
The event is normally free to attend, although purchases and any separately operated activities may carry a charge.

The Libertine has already published its 2026 Christmas dining options.
Its three-course festive party menu costs £43 per person, while the Christmas Day menu costs £99 per person. The Gallery Room can also be booked for private celebrations, office parties and larger family gatherings.
Christmas Day and popular December dates are likely to require advance booking.

Westbourne’s greatest festive strength is not a single event. It is the concentration of independent businesses around Poole Road, Seamoor Road and Westbourne Arcade.
Visitors can browse fashion boutiques, gift shops, art supplies, books, jewellery, food and homeware within a compact area. The covered arcade is particularly useful in December because it provides some shelter while retaining the character of an outdoor shopping trip.
