If you’re looking to start your day with energy and a smile, there’s a brilliant option in Westbourne.
The weekly session called “Fun Fitness for Early Risers” is hosted by Bournemouth and Poole Fun Fit For Life Club and takes place every Monday & Thursday at 6:00 am on West Overcliff Drive in Westbourne.
You don’t have to be super fit to join - the motto is simply: you don’t have to be fit to start, but you do have to start.
This is much more than a gentle jog. The structure is like a cross between a boot-camp and a playful playground for adults.
Expect body-weight exercises, circuit training, hill work and plenty of interaction with other members. It’s designed for all levels, and one of the best parts is the community vibe: you’ll leave tired, but smiling.
The meeting point is by West Overcliff steps down near the beach – look out for the steps near the Harvester West Cliff. The sessions cost £4.00 each, though there is a cheaper rate of £3.00 if you pre-book 15 sessions.
The group is capped at 18 people, so it’s wise to RSVP ahead of time. The session lasts one hour (6:00 to 7:00 am).
You’ll want to bring water, dress for the weather (early mornings by the coast can be cool) and perhaps a towel or a warm top for after the workout.
There are several great reasons to try this session.
Firstly, starting your day with movement boosts your energy, mood and focus. By participating in a fun group workout right at dawn, you set a positive tone for the whole day.
Secondly, being outdoors on the Westbourne coast path near the sea adds an extra dimension of freshness and enjoyment compared with being indoors.
Thirdly, the community aspect means you won’t feel alone: meeting like-minded early risers builds motivation and makes it easier to stick with the habit.
